Both of my parents were addicted to drugs, but THC is not illegal

I tried to tell her that cannabis isn’t illegal, but she is concerned that I will develop a drug problem that will ruin the rest of my college career

My grandmother has been raising me since I was 10 years old. Both of my parents were addicted to drugs. They were in and out of jail and then sentenced to prison when I was 10. My grandmother took custody of my sister and I so we didn’t have to enter the foster care system. I am extremely thankful that my grandmother stepped up, because my sister and I got to stay together. My grandmother worked hard to put a roof over our head and food on the table. Even at 60 years old, she was still maintaining a full-time job and taking care of my sister and I. I finished with high school and got a scholarship to play basketball at the community college. My friends and I went to a recreational marijuana dispensary one day and picked out some pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes. We smoked most of them that weekend, but I had a half of a joint in my pocket when I went home. I didn’t think my grandmother would be able to smell the marijuana, but she started asking questions as soon as I walked through the door. My grandmother was very upset that I was using recreational marijuana. I tried to tell her that cannabis isn’t illegal, but she is concerned that I will develop a drug problem that will ruin the rest of my college career. It’s hard to explain recreational marijuana used to my grandmother, because most of her life has been a war on drugs. My mother has been in and out of rehab since she was 20.
