Acquiring a medical marijuana card during the early days of our state’s medical marijuana program was a lot more difficult than it is today.
There was legitimately no online portal for applying for a state-issued medical marijuana card! You had to send a physical application in the mail, and I had to wait an additional three weeks the first time on a rejection because I cropped my photo the wrong way.
It was a major nightmare trying to deal with these setbacks just to get access to legal medical cannabis. I guess it was a two week wait after I had to send a modern application in to maintain the tiny setbacks with the first one. It was exciting when I finally received the reply envelope the following time, however I was also panicking in my mind with the fear that it would be another rejection. Fortunately the letter was essentially informing me that my application was accepted and approved by the Office of Medical Marjuana Use. The envelope also contained my respected medical marijuana card. Nowadays this process is essentially instant. You fill in the application online, pay digitally with a credit card, and then you’re approved in a jiffy. The OMMU will text you a temporary medical marijuana card you can utilize at cannabis shops until your respected one arrives in the mail. It couldn’t be more simple to apply for and renew your medical marijuana card in this particular state. I’m ecstatic that the OMMU has gotten rid of the crazy paper applications of the 20th century. It was a serious nightmare for their employees, as the date information had to be inputted manually by them. Now that it’s actually digital, the patients do much of the data-entry that used to be taken care of by the employees.
