Different attitudes about cannabis use

That is the main “attitude adjustment” I had to make about cannabis, because back home I never bought a large quantity to keep at home, I would just buy a little at a time to smoke at the hash bar.

Where I come from we have very lenient attitudes about marijuana and alcohol. When it comes to hard drugs, of course there are rules and regulations, and people can go to jail. But the country decided that treating booze, tobacco, and pot as illegal substances was bad for everyone. Attitudes about public use were very lax, and that made things feel normal. Now that I live in the States, I have had to make a few attitude adjustments. Although the laws for marijuana legalization are still being fleshed out, pot possession is no longer something that will get you sent to jail. Still, cannabis use is something done in private, as if it should be kept secret. I don’t like this at all, and prefer to smoke cannabis when I am out with friends, not when I am alone in my apartment. That is the main “attitude adjustment” I had to make about cannabis, because back home I never bought a large quantity to keep at home, I would just buy a little at a time to smoke at the hash bar. This was very common among my friends, and even though we would smoke cannabis quite often, we wouldn’t ordinarily keep any at home. For us, cannabis was a social thing, and we did it in public and in groups. There is nothing wrong with smoking cannabis alone, of course, it was just never normal for me. The COVID quarantine gave me a fresh appreciation for owning a fair amount of cannabis at home, though, so we all live and learn.
