My friends and I decided to try making edible cannabis treats at home.
It was a mistake, but we didn’t know that until we were finished with the project.
It was a Saturday morning and Cole got the idea to make brownies. I had a whole ounce of Blue Dream flower and we thought it might be fun to make edible marijuana brownies with the recipe. We looked at several recipes online, but everything looked difficult. The process to extract the THC from the flower took three hours on the stovetop. We melted coconut oil on the stove. We put all of the ground marijuana flower inside of a piece of cheesecloth and sealed it tightly. I placed the large bag of marijuana flower in the bottom of the warm coconut oil. As the oil warms the marijuana, it is supposed to infuse the oil with THC yumminess. We had no way of knowing whether or not the process actually worked, until after the bronies were baked. The smell of the cannabi coconut oil was atrocious. It smelled like dead flowers. It was a dark green color and thicker than traditional oil. After adding the mixture to the brownie batter, the entire bowl of batter smelled like weed. We baked the brownies on a low temperature for 35 minutes. When they came out of the oven, we could smell marijuana in the air. The brownies packed a serious punch, but they tasted too much like old flowers. Next time we make edibles, we have to find a better extraction process.
