One of the policies at work concerns time off.
The manager at the marijuana dispensary rarely gives someone a day off even if they request it.
She prefers to make the same schedule every week. If someone wants a day off, they have to trade or find someone to cover the shift. Overtime is allowed at the marijuana dispensary, so I can always find someone to cover my shift. I told my boss that I needed to be off on Friday night. She gave me the same song and dance that she always does. She told me that she could not promise to give me the time off. I told her that I was supposed to meet my girlfriend’s parents for dinner. I wasn’t going to miss it. She gave me the names of the people that were not scheduled to work on Friday night and she told me to call one of them to cover the shift. I called Jack first. I left a message on his voicemail. I called Sarah next. She didn’t answer the phone either. I was on the phone with another person when Jack called me back. I sent Jack to voicemail while I finished talking to Carl. Carl already had plans for Friday night and he could not pick up the shift. Thankfully, Jack was willing to cover the shift. When I called him back on the phone, he said he would happily pick up the hours on friday. He offered to trade days with me so I wouldn’t miss any time, but I wasn’t particularly worried about the hours. I just needed someone to cover the shift so I could meet my future in-laws.
