Medical cannabis, art therapy, and my mind’s eye

I always have intrusive thoughts like “what if it isn’t wonderful enough?” or “is this the right color?” Medical marijuana shuts out all those intrusive thoughts and makes my mind tranquil and placid, so I can just create artwork without thinking.

Art isn’t the kind of therapy that saves peoples lives, it’s more like a gentle encouragement in the direction of positive mental health. It isn’t anything like physical therapy, which will help people reuse their lives and health. Art therapy is just for relaxation, and for getting in touch with your creative side. I have found that artistic therapy is much more rewarding for patients than some other forms of therapy. Instead of talking to a healthcare expert, you talk your mind’s eye using art and creativity. I encourage all of my patients to try using art therapy as a way to find relaxation, and sometimes I also encourage them to try medical cannabis. Personally I love to use medical cannabis every afternoon, often in conjunction with doing my painting. Let me explain, because medical cannabis gives a whole new dimension to my art, which makes it far more cathartic. When I am totally sober, it’s taxing for me to focus on the painting. I always have intrusive thoughts like “what if it isn’t wonderful enough?” or “is this the right color?” Medical marijuana shuts out all those intrusive thoughts and makes my mind tranquil and placid, so I can just create artwork without thinking. Medical cannabis lets the art flow directly out of me and onto the paint and canvas, which means I am often surprised by the results. As the haze of medical cannabis slowly leaves my thoughts, I always find a painting that reflects my innermost self. Periodically I know that medical cannabis is really the artist, and it just somehow works through my hands.

My favorite Uncle was always high

When I was a girl, the major holidays were always a big deal for our family.

I was one of six kids, and my mom and dad both had a slew of siblings.

Each Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a few other holidays and birthdays, the whole extended family would party for a big meal or a cookout when the weather was nice. My Uncle Sam stood out among all my family members. Sam was always so cool and laid back, and was the only one of my Uncles who liked playing with the kids. Some years later I found out that Sam was always stoned on medical cannabis, which is why he was so much fun to hang out with. Of course back in those afternoons it wasn’t called medical cannabis, because that had yet to be officially legalized by the government. In other words, Sam didn’t have a prescription, because no healthcare experts in the country were allowed to prescribe medical cannabis, Sam just liked to smoke weed. Some years later, when I was a teenager, I went over to Uncle Sam’s property to ask him how I could find some medical cannabis to smoke with my friends. Sam and I went inside, and he pulled out what was – at the time – the most medical cannabis I had ever seen in my life. Sam must have had over a pound of medical marijuana, and he pinched off a little moist nugget for me. Sam gave me a deal, that he would stand and smoke medical cannabis with me, even though he wouldn’t provide me any weed to take to my friends.

Shopping mall Santa enjoys smoking medical cannabis

I am a Mall Santa, which has some perks to it that you wouldn’t believe. Okay, so I will keep everything nice and PG rated here, although I have to tell you there is a wicked side to the life of a local Mall Santa. I am not very seasoned in years, just so you know. I am only 40, which makes me the youngest Saint Nick in this region. Once I dye my beard white and put on the outfit I look perfect, but normally my full beard is a light brown. Anyway, I get a lot of dates from single moms who want to take a romp with Kris Kringle. This is great, especially when there is drinking or cannabis involved. Some nights I go to my condo alone from the shopping mall, but many times I smoke some medical cannabis in my car as I drive to some single mom’s house. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am a sizable fan of smoking medical marijuana. In general I do not mess with real drugs, because it would impact the quality of my work, although I usually smoke medical cannabis several times a afternoon. Whenever Santa Claus is “on a candy break” from the shopping mall SantaLand, he can be found in the parking area smoking medical cannabis, then for those long stretches of work when there is a long line of screaming kids I will switch over the cannabis gummies so that I don’t accidentally sober up for a single minute. I like kids well enough, but without a little medical marijuana I like them a whole lot less. For this Santa Claus to be glad, he needs medical cannabis.

Try a cannabis drink, it packs quite a punch

Before I can tell you this story, I have to say that it might sound offensive to some folks. My friends and I will all agree that it is 100% wrong to drug people without their know-how, right? I would never trick someone into using drugs they weren’t cool with, that is morally unacceptable. This story happened almost 30 years ago, and the world was such a different site. My Uncle Bob was a undoubtedly cool guy, who loved getting high. His partner, my Aunt Sunny, was undoubtedly religious and strict. Every once in a while, Uncle Bob would slip some medical cannabis into the food he served Aunt Sunny, just to make her chill out. As I said, I know it’s wrong to slip someone medical cannabis if they don’t know about it. That said, Aunt Sunny was always so much fun with a little medical cannabis in her system, like a whole different person. After a while Bob discovered a product line of cannabis drinks that tasted like different kinds of juice. Then Bob could just hand her one of the cannabis drinks and tell her it was a cocktail. Sunny would loosen up and get giggly, but attribute that to alcohol instead of medical cannabis. I even swiped a couple of the cannabis drinks myself from time to time, and will attest to how much fun they are. I prefer smoking medical cannabis on a proper basis, and my partner does not, unlike Bob, I have never, and will never, provide her medical cannabis products without her know-how. I know it’s a funny story, but I’d never do it myself!

Why won’t the doctor prescribe medical cannabis for me?

According to my local healthcare expert Dr. Dave, I don’t have a medical condition that necessitates my use of cannabis. I know Doctor Dave is a jerk, because I desperately need a prescription for this stuff, and he won’t provide it to me, then Dr. Dave says that it should be reserved for cancer patients, or people with glaucoma… What the good Doc doesn’t understand is that I am suffering from the worst of all conditions for a guy like me – wicked writer’s block. I have a crippling case of writer’s block, and I need to get past it so I can finish my writing assignments for the week. That means I need to find medical cannabis, of the sativa variety. The sativa strains of medical marijuana are the best to keep my productivity high and my creativity at its peak. Indica strains of medical cannabis seem to make me tired, and I want to kneel down to watch cable for a couple of hours, but sativa strains of medical cannabis have quite the opposite effect, and keep me sharp and focused. If my healthcare expert won’t do the right thing and prescribe medical cannabis for me, I will have to get creative, then my cousin Mark shops at the cannabis dispensary, so I can spend money on him for a chance to get a few extra grams for me, however I need a permanent solution as well, so if Doctor Dave won’t hook me up with medical cannabis perhaps I can find a more liberal healthcare provider? I need to do some research and find out which local healthcare experts are more permissive with writing prescriptions for medical cannabis.

Celebrating Easter with medical cannabis

I am not a devoutly religious person, so I have never cared about celebrating Easter one way or the other! Personally I think that it’s OK for Christians to celebrate Easter, or any holiday they wish, but if I don’t follow a religion then I won’t celebrate that holiday myself; I never did Easter egg hunts for my kids, because it was absurd, christmas is fun, but to me that’s more about being with my family and loving that togetherness, not any one religion, but anyway, the point of this story is that my new friends Mike and Richy have made me a fan of Easter by bribing me with booze, medical cannabis, and state lottery tickets! Every year this older couple hosts an Adult Easter Egg Hunt, and inside each egg might be a $20, a lottery ticket, a small bottle of liquor, or a gram of medical cannabis.

Once the egg hunt is completed, all the people opens their eggs and then is free to trade for other prizes, and this year I found six eggs, but none of them had any medical marijuana in them, which was the only prize I wanted.

I took my lottery tickets and booze and used them to trade with other people for the medical cannabis they had found; By the end of the night it was a moot point because collectively we all drank the liquor and smoked up all the medical marijuana. In the past I have hidden Easter eggs for kids, although I have to say that injecting liquor and medical cannabis into the proceedings made it a whole lot more fun, next year I might possibly host an Adult Easter Egg Hunt of my own!

Treating symptoms of arthritis with cannabis

Ever since entering my fifties, I’ve suffered from mild arthritis in my fingers.

I notice a slight stiffness and swelling in my joints when the weather is especially hot and humid or brutally cold.

My symptoms are not severe enough to require a doctor’s visit. I am unwilling to waste the time and money of a doctor’s appointment when there’s no way I would ever take the prescribed medication. I’ve read up on arthritis medicine. The long-term side-effects are downright scary. Fortunately, I’m able to treat arthritis flare-ups with cannabis. As a plant-based remedy, cannabis-infused medication has no lasting drawbacks. I’ve noticed dry mouth and an increase in appetite when taking specific strains of cannabis. I shop at the dispensary for products with a balanced ratio of CBD to THC. I look for options that also contain CBN or CBG. All of these cannabinoids have shown promise in alleviating pain, inflammation and stiffness. The dispensary offers a wonderful assortment of smokable flower, pre-rolls, vapes, tinctures, topicals, concentrates, edibles, beverages and extracts. I always make sure to purchase some type of topical. Applying a cannabis-infused ointment directly to my fingers provides a quick onset of relief. The pain lessens and I enjoy a better range of emotion. Because topicals don’t cause any psychoactive sensations, I can apply them multiple times per day. I’ve also had good luck with both tinctures and edibles. The tinctures are especially easy to consume and allow precision dosing. I simply place a few drops under my tongue, wait a minute for the cannabinoids to be absorbed and then swallow any remaining liquid. With edibles, the effects can take several hours to be realized but they are intense and long-lasting.

Traveling for work and dealing with MMJ card reciprocity

My job requires me to travel all over the country.

I spend more time sleeping in hotel rooms than in my bed at home.

While I really enjoy experiencing new places, the workload is rather stressful. My job description includes lots of conferences, meetings, consultations and training seminars. I frequently speak in front of large groups. The data I present and recommendations I make are essential to the growth and success of the company. The anxiety of both traveling and the expectations manifest into all sorts of health issues. I suffer from frequent migraines so severe that I am sensitive to light and sounds. It’s not usual for me to throw up due to the pain in my head. Because of so much time spent sitting on airplanes, sitting at airports and sitting at work-related events, I have developed problems with painful joints. I deal with carpal tunnel syndrome, neck and back pain, arthritis in my fingers and plantar fasciitis. While I have my MMJ card that allows me to shop at the dispensary in my local area, not every state provides medical marijuana reciprocity. I am far more eager to travel to those states that recognize my MMJ card. While the states with legalized recreational weed charge me tax and won’t sell me as much quantity, it’s still a relief to be able to shop at the dispensaries. I enjoy visiting dispensaries across the country. It gives me an opportunity to try out new brands and strains. On my travels, I’ve come across cannabis-infused peanut butter, ice cream, honey and popcorn.

Strains of cannabis for treating migraines

As someone who suffers from frequent headaches, cannabis has changed my life.

There was a time when I would feel the onset of migraine symptoms and have few options. Prescription and over-the-counter medicines create all sorts of new and long-term health problems. Home remedies don’t really work. Cannabis has provided a safe, natural and effective alternative. My local dispensary sells four strains of smokable flower that are especially beneficial. One of the big issues with migraines is that my head hurts so bad that I can’t sleep. However, sleep is often the best remedy. Purple Kush is a pure indica strain that offers seventeen to twenty-two percent THC and less than one percent CBD. It creates a lovely full-body relaxation and deep sleep. My migraine doesn’t keep me awake, and I get up in the morning feeling refreshed. Another favorite from the dispensary is OG Kush. With high THC content, it works to lessen pain and nausea. I also like to shop at the dispensary for White Widow. The hybrid cross of indica and sativa is from Amsterdam and is associated with relaxation and easing muscle tension. If I can treat my migraine symptoms at the early onset, I use Chocolope. It’s an uplifting sativa strain that’s best for daytime use. I light up a joint or a bowl as a preemptive strategy, before the full onslaught of pain. It not only diminishes the concerns of a migraine but promotes clear-thinking and creativity. I am fortunate that I have easy access to cannabis. Although I haven’t gone through the time, paperwork and cost of qualifying for my MMJ card, I can shop at the dispensary for curative strains.

Getting familiar with terpenes

When I was just beginning my cannabis experience, I knew very little about how to choose the right products for my preferences and purposes.

At the dispensary, most of the options are divided into three categories.

Indica strains are generally associated with relaxing, whole-body sensations. Sativas are expected to provide more of an energizing and cerebral high. Hybrid effects depend on the properties of the parent plants. As I’ve gotten more familiar with cannabis and how it works, I’ve focused more on cannabinoids. There are over a hundred cannabinoids found in the plant. THC and CBD are the two most abundant and well-known. THC creates psychoactive effects while CBD is most often utilized for its therapeutic benefits. Just recently, I realized that the chemical profile of each unique strain includes terpenes. They are produced by a variety of plants, including fruit trees and herbs. They are responsible for the flavor and smell of the plant. Like cannabinoids, terpenes are found in the trichomes that cover the buds. Over one hundred separate terpenes have been identified and multiple types can be provided by a single strain of cannabis. Soil and climate influence the creation of terpenes. The unique, varying and diverse combination of these terpenes produces specific aroma and flavor and also influences the potential benefits. The terpenes found in other plants have been used throughout history in essential oils for aromatherapy. Linalool is found in lavender and is sought after for calming and improving sleep. Dried cannabis flower strains offer an exciting variety of terpene combinations. They can even change for the same strain from one harvest to the next.
